January 8, 2012:  Regional Director Dale Phillips is keynote speaker at The Hermitage, Nashville, TN.

January 17, 2012:  Bill Wilson will present a program on the War of 1812 Bicentennial to the Optimist Club of Belleville

January 21-22, 2012:  Native American Winter Gathering, Keokuk IA.  Contact Larry Cooper for more information.

February, 2012:  Bill Wilson will present a program on the War of 1812 Bicentennial to the Prairie State DAR Chapter.

March 31, 2012: Genealogy Program, St. Charles Mo. Community College.  $20 for members; $25 for nonmembers

April 26-28, 2012:  War of 1812 Symposium, Peoria IL

June 9, 2012:  Sangamon River Chapter, USD1812 will have a grave marking at Rose Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, IL.

June 23, 2012:  Combined marking by DAR, USD1812 and Illinois Society War of 1812 for Ninian Edwards, Springfield, IL.

July 21, 2012:  Gravemarking in New Berlin for four patriots

July 27-29, 2012:  Farm Heritage Days, Hill's Fort Society, Greenville, IL

June 10, 2012:  Bill Wilson will give program on First IllinoisEnglish Settlers as part of Smithsonian display at Waterloo Public Library

August 2012:  Marking for eight War of 1812 soldiers in Bethel Cemetery, Pike County, IL.

September, 2012:  Illinois Brigade Encampment and Fort Dearborn parade

September 14-16, 2012:  Living History at Johnson County Bicentennial, Vienna IL

October 2012:  Marking for five solders and two real daughters at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chatham.  

October 12-13, 2012:  Youth Activities Days, Hill's Fort Society, Greenville, IL

2013

October 6, 2013:  Samuel Whiteside and John Clemens Commemoration, Hunter Cemetery, Mt. Auburn, Christian Co., IL sponsored by the Illinois Society of 1812 and the USD1812.

January 2013:  Bus trip to New Orleans Battle site - departing Chicago & making pick-ups along the way; contact Carole Wylder if you would like to assist.  (may be combined with Oct 2012 trip)

Your Illinois War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission is also planning events to take place during the 2011-2014 bicentennial period. Check back often for updates.

EVENT PLANS AND IDEAS

•    Develop a clothing and accoutrement fair to be used initially at Kaskaskia and then on to other sites throughout Illinois.

•    Develop a tri-a-rama presentation based in Illinois Territory on 1) the Revolutionary War, 2) the Lewis & Clark era, 3) the War of 1812.

•    Develop a program that honors and remembers Rev. Billy Jones in Madison and Bond Counties.

•    Develop a program that honors and remembers Simon Lindley in Bond, Madison, and Sangamon Counties.

•    Develop a Madison County fort and blockhouse site tour.

•    Develop a Monroe and Randolph Counties fort and blockhouse site tour.

•    Develop a Wabash Valley fort and blockhouse site tour.

•    Plan a program at the old Rose Hotel in Elizabethtown.

•    Develop an audio CD of Illinois War of 1812 tales or short stories.

•    Support establishment of a new Daughters of 1812 chapter in the Hutsonville/Wabash area.

•    Illinois State History Fair project scenario which includes: 
o    Listing of potential project titles;
o    Listing of available source material;
o    Offer to find a mentor for history fair entrants; 
o    Place history fair projects in libraries around state.

•    Provide mentor for research papers for Illinois History Fair.

•    Provide mentor for audio-visual projects for Illinois State History Fair.

•    Develop a Geo-Caching route that encompasses many War of 1812 era sites throughout Illinois.

•    Develop a DVD of Illinois in the 1812 era

•    Plan a program in Grafton celebrating the Illinois River Block house.

•    Plan and complete the Commission’s book Illinois in the War of 1812.

•    Plan the Lively family massacre commemoration for Washington County.

•    Plan the Wood River massacre commemoration.

•    Plan the Vandalia encampment.

•    Fort Allison, Wabash County Blockhouse

•    First Invasion Movie

•    Fort Russell rediscovery

•    Plan event about William O’Neill – Ranger Killed

•    Reestablish Daughters of 1812 Chapter in Jacksonville area

 •    Develop Wabash Valley map of forts and blockhouses in conjunction with Indiana

•    Plan Shawnee Trail and Goshen Trail Commemorative Walks

•    Plan Ft Russell ball

September 23-24, 2011:  Grande Levee Fall Festival , Vandalia IL.  Historic flag program presented by Illinois Society War of 1812 at 3:30.

November 20, 2011:  Illinois Society War of 1812 is marking the grave of War of Aaron Badgley, Sergeant, Captain Short’s Company of Mounted Riflemen Illinois Militia and Private, Captain Stuntz’s Company Illinois Militia at 2:00 pm at the Badgley Cemetery, on Old Caseyville Road, Swansea, IL

November 30, 2011:  Public meeting to 'locate Piggott's Fort',
3 pm- 7 pm at Sand Bank School, just north of the Piggot Fort site, at 11832 Bluff Road, Columbia.  Contact Paul Ellis or Dennis Patton for more information or click here for flyer.
